Passenger air traffic increased by 5.4% during the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data published on Wednesday 11 May by ACI Europe (Airports Council International Europe). The largest rise (6.2%) was recorded by the smallest airports (fewer than 5 million passengers per year, such as Bourgas in Bulgaria, Kaunas in Lithuania and Brindisi in Italy), followed equally by airports with a flow of between 5 to 10 million passengers per year (like Charleroi in Belgium or Tenerife), and those with over 25 million passengers like Barcelona or Amsterdam-Schiphol (+5.1% in each of these groups).
