Brussels, 06/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - José Bové, the deputy chair of the European Parliament's committee on agriculture, and Monica Frassoni, who is joint leader of the Greens/EFA Group at the EP, attended a meeting on Thursday 5 May on the common agricultural policy (CAP) at the university of Milan. Among other things, they discussed with Carlo Petrini, President of Slow Food Italy, about the need for CAP reform.
José Bové and Monica Frassoni sent out the following message: “You have a fundamental resource in agriculture and local food, and you have a strategic instrument for conventional and territorial balance in Milan. This is 'Parco Sud'. To feed the planet, it is not enough to defend that which already exists - it is necessary to enhance agriculture from the urban perimeter through policies that promote local agriculture and support small local farms”. Frassoni said: “We are in favour of a radical change of environmental and territorial policies, not only in Milan but also in Lombardy and throughout the Italian peninsula”. (L.C./transl.jl)
