06/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Turkey must speed up agricultural reform, says OECD. Despite firm progress, the Turkish agricultural policy remains too protectionist, given the scale of the support to producers (34% of total agricultural income, higher than the OECD average of 22%) and of protection against imports, says an OECD report published on 29 April. Turkey, the world's seventh largest agricultural producer, can improve its competitiveness by decoupling agricultural support from production. This would help it to be better prepared for possible entry into the EU, the OECD stated. (E.H./transl.rt)
