Brussels, 19/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 20 April, the four online ETS registries of Cyprus, Hungary, Liechtenstein (third country) and Malta will resume operations at 8.00am. The national emissions registry of Lithuania will resume normal operations the same day at 3.00pm. This was announced on Tuesday 19 April by the European Commission in view of the review of the report from the Lithuanian national registry on the adequacy of its security measures.
Once this becomes operational, the Commission decision will end the suspension of the national registries, which has been in place since 7.00pm on 19 January. It was cyber theft affecting some of them that promoted this temporary measure. The Commission considers that the five countries have provided “reasonable assurances” about minimum security requirements since this damaging incident harmed the integrity and reputation of the European carbons market.
Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway (a non-EU country participating in the ETS) had previously received the go-ahead from the Commission to resume all their online ETS operations.
