05/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Schulz: Al Assad must be treated like Gaddafi. On Tuesday 5 April, the leader of the S&D Group at the European Parliament, Martin Schulz of Germany, denounced the relative silence from the capitals regarding the repression by the Syrian head of state, Bachar Al Assad. “What is happening in Syria is worrying and I am surprised to see that the force used by Bachar Al Assad is not criticised like the violence by Colonel Gaddafi in Libya. There is no hierarchy when it comes to violence. Al Assad is a dictator. I am concerned by the violence in Syria, the hermetic closure of villages, and machine guns firing on minors. I am astonished that anger against Syria is less developed than that against other places. The violence against the people of Syria must be condemned just as strongly as that against the people of Libya”, Schulz stressed. (E.H./transl.jl)
