No to DHA baby food health claims

Brussels, 17/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - Praising of the benefits of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in baby food, with claims that this fatty acid “contributes to the normal visual development of infants up to 12 months of age” will not be allowed. The environment, public health and food safety committee of the European Parliament (EP), which is chaired by Jo Leinen (S&D, Germany), decided that any such assertion could not be permitted as a functional health claim.
