Up to 13% of Europe's greenhouse gas comes from livestock farming

Brussels, 07/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - According to a new report by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from European livestock farming are estimated at 651 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent each year, in other words 9.1 to 12.8% of total GHG, depending on the assumptions for emissions from land use and land use change.

The Commission points out that this is well below the global 18% level calculated by the Food and Agricultural Organisation...
