With MEPs Michel Dantin and Giovanni La Via in attendance, CEETTAR (European Organisation of Agricultural and Rural Contractors) and EDT (Fédération nationale des entrepreneurs des territories) President Gérard Napias highlighted the contribution made by agricultural works contractors to the competitiveness and sustainability of European, agriculture. He stressed “the need to recognise the essential role played by the 100,000 contractors along the whole agricultural production line and finally to adjust the Community legal framework”. He pointed out that the EU is currently setting itself new targets in agricultural production, methods of production and rural development. “It would be counter-productive if it were to ignore the force for innovation and competitiveness that agricultural works companies represent”. CEETTAR, which was set up in 1983, represents almost 100,000 independent companies and 425,000 workers, with national organisations in 13 member states. (contact: ceettar@ceettar.eu) L.C./transl.rt)
