Ashton calls for proper national dialogue

Brussels, 17/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton is releasing a lot of press releases which all look the same: after Libya (see yesterday's EUROPE) and Bahrain (see other article), the high representative on Thursday also expressed her concern at the situation in Yemen, where the violent repression of anti-governmental demonstrations have left several people injured in recent days. “Catherine Ashton is following the situation in Yemen very closely. She's extremely concerned by what happened yesterday evening in Aden”, said her spokesperson on 17 February. “The high representative deplores the loss of life and violence and calls for calm and restraint. The peaceful expression of the citizens' concerns should be the object of dialogue. A proper broad and inclusive national dialogue is the only way of making progress on political, economic and social reforms”, the spokesperson added. (H.B./transl.fl)
