10/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Inauguration of Euronest but no representatives from Belarus. On Thursday 10 February, the conference of presidents of the European Parliament unanimously decided to organise the first session of the parliamentary Euronest Assembly, which constitutes the parliamentary dimension of the Eastern Partnership. This assembly was set up in May 2009 and its inauguration will take place without representatives from the Belarus parliament, declared a press release from the EP president, Jerzy Buzek (EPP, Poland). Buzek declared: “Parliamentarians from Belarus will be welcome but only when free elections recognised by the whole world become a reality”. In the meantime, the European Parliament “remains a place of welcome for all those from Belarus who believe in and are fighting for democracy and freedom”, he declared. The five partners (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldavia and Ukraine) all approved this decision, the press release explained. (A.By./transl.fl)
