Portuguese registry of online transactions re-opens this Friday

Brussels, 10/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Slowly but surely, the national registries of transactions carried out online on the European carbon market are returning to service. Portugal's registry will re-open at 8.00am this Friday 11 February, the European Commission announced on Thursday.

The Commission said that Portugal had given it “reasonable assurances that minimum security requirements have been set in place”, as are required to protect its registry from the cyber-attacks which led to the temporary suspension of the 27 national registries as of 7.00pm on 19 January.

As with the five registries which re-opened for business on 4 February (Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia and the United Kingdom - see EUROPE 10308), the green light given for the Portuguese registry to return to work was based on an in-depth examination by the Commission of the independent security report submitted by Lisbon, in line with the obligation on all member states (see EUROPE 10302).
