Brussels, 27/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - At its third Innovation Day, in Brussels on 25 January, ETNO, the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association, called for a greater level of ambition in the development of e-health. It made a number of recommendations: putting in place a continuous network among those involved in healthcare; allowing access to patients' data to doctors in another member state; ensuring interoperability across clinical information systems; clarifying regulatory aspects with regard to e-health software applications; including e-health in healthcare reimbursement schemes; and using EU funds for the large-scale deployment of e-health applications. “Our (health) systems are guaranteed to collapse if we do not make radical changes. Sustainable e-health investment clearly requires a lot more than finance alone”, said European Commissioner Neelie Kroes, opening the event. (I.L./transl.rt)
