05/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers will do all in its power to reach agreement on the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area, even though France and Germany are calling for any decision on this issue to be delayed until after the summer, Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi has said. “We have to be realistic, but we should not resign from expanding Schengen to Romania and Bulgaria as soon as possible”, he told a group of journalists in Budapest on 5 January. If agreement proves impossible under the Hungarian Presidency, member states should “at least set a timeline” in order to have a “clear framework” for the accession of these two countries, he said.
