Brussels, 20/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 17 December, the European Commission decided to extend to Deutsche Telekom the abuse of dominant position investigation it opened on 8 April 2009 against the Slovakian subsidiary of the German group, Slovak Telekom. This subsidiary may have prevented or hindered competition on the broadband internet access market and on other electronic communications markets in Slovakia. In the course of the investigation, the Commission obtained evidence of the relationship between Slovak Telekom and the parent company. Extending the procedure to Deutsche Telekom is designed to establish whether the German company had any involvement or responsibility in a number of suspected infringements. However, the fact that this procedure has been opened does not mean the Commission has any decisive elements confirming whether an infringement insists, simply that it intends to examine the case in question as a priority.
