On home straight towards WTO accession

Brussels, 09/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - Serbia is on the way to concluding its WTO accession negotiations which were opened in 2005. At a meeting at the end of October, WTO member countries hailed Belgrade's “significant progress and effort” in implementing new WTO-compliant legislative texts, and expressed the hope, therefore, that Serbia would be able to join “soon”. Serbia has already signed bilateral agreements on access to the goods and services markets with Japan, Norway and Honduras, and is expected very shortly to conclude agreements with the EU, Canada and South Korea. Negotiations with the United States, China and Switzerland are “making good progress”, according to information from the WTO, and Panama, too, is looking to conclude an agreement with Serbia.
