03/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - Protection of “Gouda Holland”. After approval was given by the competent EU committee at the start of October (see EUROPE 10232), the European Commission announced on Thursday 2 December that the names of two Dutch cheeses, “Edam Holland” and “Gouda Holland” were to be added to the list of Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs). On their own, “Gouda” and “Edam” will still be considered generic and may be used elsewhere. (L.C./transl.rt)
