ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) software

Rhine-Main-Neckar still top technology region in Europe. - Revenue for the Rhine-Main-Neckar region in Germany is €11 707 million, making it Europe's leading region for the software industry for the second time, according to the second issue of “Truffle 100 European Clusters”, published by the investment company, Truffle Capital. The study was carried out with the support of European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes and Syntec Informatique. The study looks at the 40 top European regions for software (classification is based on regional income in terms of millions of euro earned). The Rhine-Main-Neckar region is top of the league table for the second consecutive year, unsurprisingly, because it is home of European software leader, SAP publishers. South East England (including London) is in second position with €3,064 million, ahead of the Ile de France region, which is now in third place, with €2,613 million. The United Kingdom has consolidated its position in comparison to 2009, with three regions in the five top positions in this table as opposed to two regions 2009 (fourth place in the league table is North East England, with €1,614 millions and in fifth place, East England, with revenue of €1,124 million). The three main English players have experienced robust external growth and investment in R&D and have made rapid progress, as opposed to other regions such as the Ile de France, which has lost its position in second place, indicates Bernard-Louis Roques, co-founder of Truffle Capital.
