17/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Olof Skoog, first permanent chairman of Political and Security Committee. On Tuesday 16 November, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton appointed Swede Olof Skoog as the Permanent Chairman of the Political and Security Committee (PSC). The stable chairmanship of the CSP was introduced by the Lisbon Treaty. Until now, meetings of the Committee, which exercises political control over crisis management operations and monitors the situation in areas covered by the common foreign and security policy (CFSP) have been chaired by the representative of the country holding the rotating Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers. Skoog himself is the former Swedish permanent representative to the Committee and chaired the PSC during the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2009. (A.By./transl.rt)
