Brussels, 17/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 18 November, Commissioner for Culture Androulla Vassiliou will award the European Prize for Literature to 11 authors in a ceremony at the Royal Flemish Theatre KVS in Brussels. The prize-winning authors include: Peter Terrin (Belgium), Myrto Azina Chronides (Cyprus), Adda Djorup (Denmark), Tiit Aleksejev (Estonia), Riku Korhonen (Finland), Iris Hanika (Germany), Jean Bach (Luxembourg), Goce Smilevski (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), Razvan Radulescu (Romania), Natasa Kramberger (Slovenia) and Raquel Martinez-Gómez (Spain). Each author will receive €5,000 and their prize-winning books will benefit from priority translation existing in the Culture programme. The annual European Prize for Literature aims to draw attention to new authors, as well as promote publication of their books in different countries, whilst celebrating European cultural diversity. The scheme exists in 35 countries participating in the Culture programme. The selection mechanism stipulates that countries awarding the prize for literature change every year for a cycle of three years. (I.L./transl.fl)
