Largest ever Bank support for infrastructure

Brussels, 15/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) has just signed two new loans worth a total of €420 million for motorway and port infrastructure projects in Morocco. A €220 million loan, signed with the Moroccan National Motorway Company (ADM) on 10 November, will help finance the construction of the 172-kilometre stretch of motorway between Casablanca and the south eastern region of Tadla-Azilal. The project seeks to bring the Tadla plain, the Grand Atlas Mountains and the Middle Atlas Mountains “closer” to the economic centre of the country (Rabat/Casablanca) and to promote agriculture and tourism in these more peripheral regions. The opening of the new motorway is scheduled for June 2013. A second loan, of €200 million, signed on 11 November, is for the extension of the Tangiers Med port with Tangiers Med II, an integrated logistical and industrial complex, 35 kilometres from the city of Tangiers. With this project, Morocco will have a modern, efficient complex to offer potential investors. (O.L./transl.rt)
