Brussels, 15/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Democratic Party (EDP) wants to play a full part in the strategic reflection on the future of Europe and its fourth congress - in Brussels on 11-12 November, jointly chaired by François Bayrou, President of Mouvement Démocrate (MoDem, France) and Francesco Rutelli, President of Alleanza per l'Italia (API) - passed a motion to this effect. An EDP press release explains that the congress provided an opportunity to take a series of strategic decisions and to deepen its reflection ahead of the next European elections. The debates were backed by four interim reports on immigration, the European social model in the face of new demographic challenges, the connection between global warming and sustainable growth and “globalisation and relocation”. The congress decided to set up four new working groups: “The EU and emerging economies; The EU and global governance; Poverty, development and the Millennium Development Goals; and EU 2020, a ten-year strategy for employment and smart, sustainable and social growth”.
