Brussels, 10/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The new EU trade strategy, presented by Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht on 9 November, may leave uncertain the level of urgency granted to conclusion of the Doha Round but, on Wednesday, the European Commission stressed its commitment to concluding the multilateral trade negotiations, that were launched in 2001, before the end of 2011. “Geneva is not sleeping. An active process is going on at ambassadorial level. The deadline is set at 2011. This is the best opportunity we have had. We are pushing forward,” a source within the European Commission close to the matter told EUROPE. On the eve of the G20 summit in Seoul on 11 November, which is expected to reiterate the commitment on the part of the world's major economic powers to free trade and the conclusion of the Doha Round, the Commission's ambition appears undiminished.
