Brussels, 04/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 30 September, Moroccan authorities refused President of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) Kamel Jendoubi entry to the country. “No official explanation” was given, according to an EMHRN press release. Jendoubi was travelling to Rabat to receive a tribute, along with other human rights defenders of the region, for his human rights work. He was not allowed to set foot on Moroccan soil. “It is believed that the Moroccan government has given in to a request from the Tunisian regime,” says a press release jointly signed by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network, International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH), EuroMed NGO Platform, French Human Rights League, Committee for the Respect of Human Rights and Freedoms in Tunisia and F.T.C.R. In comments reported in the press, FIDH President Souhayr Balhassen criticised Morocco's action: “Morocco is one of the few countries in the region where we can discuss human rights issues.
