04/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is asking Ireland to comply with a ruling by the EU's Court of Justice of 2005 regarding an infringement to legislation on waste disposal. If this member state fails to comply, it could be subject to financial penalties. Despite progress made, particularly with regard to implementation of the waste disposal network, Ireland still does not have a sufficient network for construction waste. On the other hand, the European Commission welcomes the provisions made by Ireland to comply with the decision by the European Court of Justice in 2007 involving the protection of Natura 2000 sites and has improved environmental impact assessments for aquaculture plants. In both cases, the infringement procedures begun have now been closed. These decisions were taken on 30 September last (A.N./transl.fl)
