27/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - A most unfortunate mistake slipped into our article on the new sanctions imposed on Iran in our bulletin, EUROPE 10188. Contrary to what was written, conclusions adopted by the Council reaffirm the EU's commitment to reaching a negotiated and diplomatic solution on the Iranian nuclear issue. All restrictive measures have been adopted “with a view to supporting the resolution of all outstanding concerns regarding Iran's development of sensitive technologies in support of its nuclear and missile programmes, through negotiation”, the conclusions state. They also reaffirm the “longstanding commitment of the European Union to work for a diplomatic solution of the Iranian nuclear issue”. With this in mind, the Council supports the efforts of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton to resume talks in this regard, and invites the Iranian authorities to seize this opportunity.
