Brussels, 28/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 28 June, the Council of Notoriats of the European Union (CNUE), with the support of the European Commission, launched an internet site in 22 EU languages, plus Croatian, to help European citizens better understand national inheritance laws. The site - http://www.successions-europe.eu - provides answers to the most commonly asked questions on inheritances. “For those citizens who exercise their right to live in another member state, it is not easy to figure out which national law applies to successions. With this website, citizens will be better informed and able to make the right decisions,” said Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Commissioner Viviane Reding. European citizens will be able, for example, find out which authority will be competent and which law will apply, whether it is possible to choose the applicable law and who the heirs are. For legal practitioners, there will also be detailed reports on succession law available in English, French and German. The project's total cost amounts to almost €280,000, with the Commission contributing about €158,400. (B.C./transl.rt)
