08/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - Given the departure of Marek Belka, Director of the International Monetary Fund's European Department, who is to become the governor of the Polish central bank, it was Dominique Strauss-Kahn, IMF Director General, who presented his institution's assessment of the eurozone economic situation to Eurogoup members. This is likely to be an arrangement that will become the norm as, from now on, the executive director will, himself, present the results of the IMF analysis to the 16 eurozone ministers, as is done in the United States. On substance, Jean-Claude Juncker explained that the Eurogroup and the IMF shared the same analysis regarding “the importance of frontloading” (the advance consolidation effort that a good number of countries have to make) or on restructuring of the financial system.
