Strasbourg, 18/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - In Washington on 11 May, European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and his US counterpart Ron Kirk discussed the WTO dispute and counter dispute between the EU and the US over support for their respective aeroplane manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing. Following their meeting, De Gucht called for negotiations “with no prior conditions” to try to reach a “negotiated solution”. He ruled out, therefore, any prior condition to the talks, such as withdrawal of aid for the launch of the Airbus A350. Airbus and Boeing being unable to develop new aircraft without aid, both the EU and the US should, De Gucht said, come to an agreement on the levels of aid which they deem acceptable. (E.H./transl.rt)
