18/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - In an interview with this newsletter, Jacek Krawczyk, vice-president of the Employers' Group at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), rapporteur on the draft regulation on accident investigations in civilian aviation, called for the Commission to take a leading role in implementation of the Single European Sky. He said it would make better sense to give the EU the tools and powers required to introduce the Single European Sky, the second, revised, version of which was adopted in 2008, in order to speed up the process of remedying the fragmentation of airspace in Europe. The second European Sky package is a political package for the EU and it should therefore be able to implement it. He criticised lack of leadership at EU level in this connection, pointing out that last year, the EESC had called for some of the planned Single European Sky bodies, like the performance review body, to be transferred from EUROCONTROL (the European air traffic control and safety organisation) to the European Commission.
