18/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 18 May, the ECOFIN Council adopted a conclusions document on rapid implementation financing of measures to combat climate change in poor countries, confirming the March 2010 European Council's pledge that the EU and its member states would meet their promises to provide €2.4 billion a year in 2010 to 2012 for the world's poorest countries. The conclusions document says that the EU and its member states have made great progress in implementing their commitment for 2010. The Council of Ministers agrees with the progress report on rapid finance commitments to be made at the CCNUCC meeting in Bonn in May and June 2010. The ECOFIN Council wants the EU and its member states to report back on their contributions to the rapid implementation anti-climate change financing before the UN Cancun summit this year and to make similar annual report-backs in following years.
