17/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton welcomes the commitment expressed by the Moldovan government in favour of a solution to the problem of Transnistria. “ I very much welcome the aid memoire presented by the Moldovan government, in which it confirms its readiness to further engage with all its partners in order to find a viable and sustainable solution to the Transnistrian issue, including with the help of the EU”, the EU high representative for foreign affairs said, speaking on Monday 17 May. Ashton said she would “consider this constructive proposal (of the Moldovan authorities) with due attention and in close consultation with our partners in the 5+2 format”. The EU, for its part, remains ready to relaunch 5+2 talks without preconditions and in respect of Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Ashton said. (H.B./transl.jl)
