10/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 5 May, the EU management committee approved a draft decision from the European Commission authorising Finland to store 140,000 tonnes of cereals from 2009-2010 outside its own borders. The European budget will pay the costs of transporting 140,000 tonnes of Finnish barley to public storage centres in Estonia, there not being sufficient storage space available in Finland. Finland has already put more than 558,000 tonnes of barley in storage since 1 November 2009. The country has recorded its third consecutive year of excellent cereal crops, with last year setting a record of 4.4 million tonnes, which includes 2.18 million tonnes of barley. (L.C./transl.rt)
