Brussels, 07/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament and the representative assemblies of Morocco (House of Representatives and House of Councillors) formed a joint parliamentary committee on 5 and 6 May, in Brussels. The representatives (ten on each side) will look in depth, out of the public eye, at all subjects concerning EU-Morocco cooperation, political situation or security in their respective regions. Subjects debated behind closed doors include conditions for implementing advanced status, progress with regards democratisation, and the regionalisation (a term used by Rabat for a solution for Western Sahara) of the state of Morocco, as well as the management of migratory flows between the EU and Morocco. The setting up of this joint parliamentary committee arises from the fact that Morocco was awarded “advanced status” in October 2008;, assuring privileged relations with the EU, an EP press release states. The meeting - chaired on the European side by Pier Antonio Panzeri (S&D, Italy) - also brought together the chairmen of other parliamentary committees (foreign affairs, civil liberties, justice and home affairs).
