Brussels, 07/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Vienna-based EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) published four new reports on Friday 7 May, suggesting that data protection authorities, equality bodies and human rights institutions need more support. “The bodies established to protect and promote fundamental rights in the EU have enormous potential. But they need to be equipped with the resources, authority and independence to function effectively,” said FRA Director Morten Kjaerum. The four reports presented by the FRA comprise an investigation on rights awareness and equality bodies, a report on data protection authorities, a report on national human rights institutions and a report on the impact of the racial equality directive.
