Brussels, 07/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - EuropeAid has published a call for tender on paving the way for Mediterranean solar energy with a budget of €5 million. Details can be found under the heading “EuropeAid/129020/C/SER/MULTI”.
The aim is to improve conditions to encourage greater take-up of renewable energy in general, and solar energy in particular, in all non-EU southern Mediterranean countries that are EU partners by highlighting combined renewable energy sources that are cheap and energy-efficient. The deadline is 15 April 2010. The call for tender notes that applications are invited from any individual or company established in an EU member state or partner country. The service contract will aim to ensure progress in introducing a harmonised legislative and regulatory framework, boosting institutional capacity, improving the transfer of knowhow, boosting capacity in renewable energy technology and improving the commercial climate. Attention will also be paid to problems related to guarantees of origin, explains EuropeAid.
During its six-month chairing of the EU, Spain will be holding a meeting in Valencia on 11 and 12 May on the Mediterranean Solar Plan, to be attended by ministers and representatives of the 43 countries in the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). (F.B./transl.fl)
