26/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - COPA (the committee of European farmers' organisations) and COGECA (European agri-cooperatives) called on the European Commission, on Friday 26 March, to fully use all market tools to improve the difficult market, “in a bid to improve EU grain prices, which have reached rock-bottom”. EU cereals farmers are suffering from high production costs (€130 a tonne, i.e. above the market price) and low market prices. The production of corn in Europe should rise slightly during the 2010/2011 marketing year, and an increase of 2% is foreseen for the EU planning area. This should put further pressure on prices.
