Brussels, 15/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - As the Eurogroup was beginning its meeting, it seemed unlikely that euro area finance ministers would agree to any public announcement on Monday evening on the aid plan they were considering to help Greece. Even if they were to discuss the options on the table, it would seem too early to formally agree on the plan and the amount involved. The Commission recently welcomed the additional measures taken by Greece which should mean that it will achieve its target of reducing its deficit by 4 percentage points in 2010. “We have been asked by the European Council to find a workable solution if we need one,” said Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker on his arrival in Brussels. He went on: “I don't believe we need one. The final decision will be made by the European Council”. European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn stated that “the Commission is ready to table a proposal for a … European framework of coordinated and conditional assistance”.
