Following Iceland's “no” to Icesave law, Commission still backs opening of accession talks

Brussels, 08/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - Despite Iceland's massive (93%) “no” vote in the referendum on 6 March on the Bill to pay almost €4 billion to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in compensation for losses following the collapse of the Icesave bank, the Commission sees no reason to review its positive assessment of the country's application to join the EU.
