Commission rejects all responsibility in the rail disaster at Halle in Belgium

Brussels, 16/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - Speaking to press on Tuesday 16 February, Helen Kearns, the spokeswoman for European Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, rejected all EU responsibility in the rail disaster at Halle in Belgium on Monday morning. The Belgian press, picking up on comments made by the head of the SNCB (Belgian National Railways), Marc Descheemaecker, suggested on Tuesday that the EU was responsible for delays in putting emergency braking systems in place in Belgium.
