11/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - The panel responsible for selecting the European Capitals of Culture for 2015 have recommended that Mons in Belgium should be one of the two cities to share the title. Its formal nomination by the EU Council of Ministers will take place in or around November 2010. Mons was the only city to apply for the title in Belgium but that did not guarantee acceptance as it had to comply with strict criteria and was assessed by an independent panel of 13 experts, six appointed by Belgium and seven by the European institutions. The other Capital of Culture for 2015 will be a city in the Czech Republic, to be announced after a special meeting in Prague on 8 September 2010. (I.L./transl.fl)
