11/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - In talks held during a backdrop to the EP plenary session on Wednesday 10 February in Strasbourg, Martin Kastler (EPP, Germany) launched an online campaign called “Mummy and Daddy are with us on Sundays” (Sonntags gehören Mami und Papi mit uns). This campaign aims at being the first European citizens' initiative to develop a new form of participation in creating EU policies introduced by the Lisbon Treaty. The campaign launched by Mr Kastler seeks to keep Sunday mealtimes for the family and protect it from any other professional activities. The German MEP (CSU) explained to the press that “Sunday is a day free of work and is part of our European culture. We must keep this time for our families, our civil society and religion”. In addition to the success of his own campaign, the European Commission is also urging support for the European Citizens Initiative. (E.H./transl.fl)
