11/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 10 February, the European Parliament adopted a resolution submitted by the S&D, ALDE, Green/EFA and the GUE/NGL calling for “unconditional” assistance to victims of human trafficking, particularly women and children. MEPs insist that victims should have the right to free legal aid, sentences should be harsher against traffickers and they should try and find ways of discouraging demand for the services provided by the victims (forced prostitution). Around 79 % of the victims identified in trafficking are women and girls. (B.C./transl.fl)
