Brussels, 06/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - Two secret CIA prisons are indeed believed to have existed on Lithuanian soil. "Premises existed, the Lithuanian borders were made accessible, planes landed", said Arvydas Anusauskas, the president of the Parliamentary committee of investigation tasked with looking into the dossier. It is believed that the first prison dates from 2002 and the second is alleged to have appeared two years later near Vilnius. However, there is no evidence that prisoners were transferred to Lithuania, as there were no checks on planes at the time. These are the conclusions, which were published at the end of December, of the committee of investigation in Lithuania, further to revelations made last August by the American television channel ABC, which asserted that the Baltic State had housed CIA "black sites" for suspected Al Qaeda terrorists. The committee of investigation stated that five aircraft with links to the CIA landed on Lithuanian soil between 2000 and 2006. However, it concluded that "those at the head of the state were not informed, or were informed only very superficially". (B.C./transl.fl)
