THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/honduras

06/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU has spoken out against the recent murders of Walter Trochez (defender of human rights, who was particularly active in favour of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people National Front of Resistance in Honduras) and of Katherine Nicolle Rodríguez Cabrera, the 16-year-old daughter of a journalist Karol Cabrera. "It is important that an investigation of these murders (committed on 13 and 17 December 2000 minds back to be) is conducted promptly, transparently and thoroughly. The perpetrators of the murders must be brought to justice", said the 27 in a declaration published by the Spanish Presidency of the EU on 4 January. The EU reminds the Honduran authorities of its obligation to protect human rights, including the freedom of expression, and to ensure the personal security of all persons in Honduras. It also calls upon all political groups in Honduras to abstain from acts of violence. (H.B./trans.fl)
