Brussels, 02/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 2 December, the European Commission authorised a French aid regime of an envelope of some €700 million, which is designed to support farmers who are struggling due to the current economic crisis. The aid provided for by this new regime can be granted up to 21 December 2010 and take the form of direct subsidies, interest-rate subsidies, subsidised loans or aid to social security contributions. France's national aid fulfils all the conditions laid down by the modified temporary framework for state aid. Amongst other things, the French authorities have demonstrated that it was necessary and proportionate and that it would serve to remedy a serious disturbance to the French economy. (L.C./transl.fl)
