24/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 November, the European Commission decided to close formal antitrust proceedings against Qualcomm Incorporated, a US chipset manufacturer, concerning an alleged breach of EC Treaty rules on abuse of a dominant market position. Qualcomm was accused by mobile telephone handset manufacturers of abusing market power in the prices charged for its licences (see EUROPE 9513). The investigation started on 1 October 2008, and the Commission has not managed to draw any conclusions in this complex case. The complainants have now all withdrawn (or indicated their intention to withdraw) their complaints and the Commission has decided to close the case. (L.C./transl.fl)
