Strasbourg, 23/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - In Berlin on Monday 23 November, European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and Swedish Secretary of State Ola Alterå signed the statutes of the International Renewable Energies Agency (IRENA). The EU thus becomes the 138th member of this new international organisation, which aims to accelerate the use of sources of renewable energy in the world. (E.H./transl.fl)
