17/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - Due to a rise in exports, the economy of the eurozone made a trade surplus in September 2009, according to figures published on Tuesday 17 November 2009 by Eurostat. Initial estimates for September suggest that the eurozone's balance of trade with the rest of the world registered a surplus of €3.7 billion, compared with a €6 billion deficit in September 2008. In August 2009, the balance of trade stood at a deficit of €2.3 billion, compared with a deficit of €10.8 billion in August 2008. In September 2009 compared with August 2009, exports increased by 5.5% and imports by 1.1%. For the EU as a whole, the trade balance with the rest of the world was in deficit in September 2009 to the tune of €11.2 billion, compared with a deficit of €24.5 billion in September 2008. In August 2009, the trade balance was in deficit to the tune of €12.0 billion, compared with a deficit of € 28.5 billion in August 2008.
