THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/georgia

17/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council of Ministers decided on Tuesday 17 November to extend the mandate of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM-Georgia) until 14 September 2010. It welcomed the contribution made by this mission to stabilisation, normalisation and the development of trust between the parties at variance in Georgia, and also reiterated its full support for implementation of the mission's mandate throughout the country, “including in the de facto entities”. The Council emphasised the need to further develop trust between the entities in question and to resort more frequently to the incident prevention mechanism (IPMR) set in place during talks in Geneva, in order to attain this objective.
