Brussels, 06/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 4 November, the Alliance for European Logistics (AEL), a lobby that has some of the biggest distribution multinationals as members, presented its “recommendations” to the European Commission. AEL wants the adoption of a more comprehensive approach towards European legislation on logistics. In his 10 recommendations presented on Wednesday, Frank Appel, CEO of the Deutsche Post DHL group, called for: - better coordination between industry and the Commission by setting up work groups; - “completion” of the internal market in this sector; - a cut in the administrative burden; - greater importance given to technical elements in the fight to reduce transport's environmental impact (and less on the “economic instruments”); - and more investment in the European intermodal corridors. This is the second “European Logistics Summit” organised by the AEL, which, as well as counting Deutsche Post DHL among its members, also has: Carrefour (large-scale distribution); the number one company in chemical products, BASF; CEVA, a company specialising in corporate supply chains; Iveco, the vehicle manufacturer; Air France-KLM and Michelin tyre producers.
